Encountering God through His Word

Lectio Divina

      1. Choose a short Gospel or Epistle passage – about 10-15 verses.
      2. Go to a place and prepare yourself to listen to God’s Word.
      3. Read the passage slowly aloud.
      4. Pause and notice any word or phrase that stands out to you.
      5. Sit quietly with that insight or feeling.
      6. Read the passage again and reflect more deeply.
      7. Respond to God in prayer if you feel led.

      Gospel Contemplation

      1. Choose a Gospel passage where Jesus interacts with others.
      2. Quiet yourself and ask God to help you encounter Christ.
      3. Read the passage twice to become familiar with it.
      4. Close your eyes and imagine the scene:
        • What does Jesus look like?
        • What are people saying and feeling?
        • What sounds, sights or actions stand out?
      5. Place yourself within the scene, perhaps as an observer or participant.
      6. Reflect on the experience and how it helps you know Jesus more deeply.
      7. End by speaking to Christ personally from your heart.
